The date for the 3rd Annual Austin Sumobot tournament is set for Saturday, August 9, 2008. It will be held at the Austin Recreation Center at 1301 Shoal Creek, near 12th & Lamar. Check-in is at 11:30 and rounds will start at noon. Robots will be limited to LEGO and the tournament is open to all ages. There is no registration fee.

In this competition, two robots attempt to push each other out of a circular arena using mechanisms, cunning, and brute force.  No intentional damage is allowed. For copies of the rules and registration form, contact Diana Heinig at [email protected] .

(6)  Report on Robofest demo at IGVC

Robofest was asked to provide a demonstration at the IGVC at Oakland University June 1stand 2nd. TARDEC (The U.S. Army Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center) Joint Center for Robotics sponsored the collegiate competition. We presented a Sumo competition, exhibition teams, mini urban challenge and game demonstration. Many thanks to all who were able to attend and for the favorable impression we made on Senator Carl Levin, who toured our displays on Monday. As always, we were looking forward to next years competitions and tested a different Sumo method that has proven to be a potential for improvement over the tiered brackets. Well keep you posted.

Again thanks to all who participated! We had a great time and were exposed to a whole other world of robotics development. Heres a link to the photos! http://picasaweb.google.com/robofest/RobofestDemoAtOaklandUIGVC
