(1) Robofest 2013 Team Registration is Open; Last Kick-off Info meeting

The 13th annual Robofest 2013 season has kicked-off! Coach and Team registration is open on the web at (and click on 2013 link). We have also posted a Zip file containing all of the important official finalized documents for this season, including the PowerPoint presentation from the Kick Off meetings on the website.


There will be another repeated Kick-off meeting on Jan 12 at 10am, at LTU, Southfield in the Buell Mgt. Building, room M218. Do not miss this last opportunity for 2013 season. Anyone can participate in the meeting online using Wimba, too. The direct link will be on our website at To join the online Webinar meeting, we recommend you test the connection before the meeting.


(2) Workshops for Registered Robofest Teams

Robofest is offering a series of programming workshops throughout January and early February 2013. The workshops are FREE to registered Robofest teams, and reservations are required to attend. Programming instruction will be provided for NXT-G, C, and Java. To view a complete list of the workshops, please visit our website and follow the link for Robofest 2013. Registered coaches outside Michigan will receive links for workshop slides and sample programs. We plan special webinar workshops for coaches and teams who cannot come to Lawrence Tech. The first workshop will be held on Jan 12 at 1pm. To reserve a seat, please email Teri Dubois at [email protected] with your team ID, site name your team is registered under, and number of students coming.


(3) Special RoboParade Opportunity at COBO Hall in MI

All RoboParade Teams -- you are invited to the following special RoboParade event at COBO Hall, Detroit during the North American Auto Show On Saturday, January 19, 2013.

We look forward to seeing your fabulous floats again! No team registration fees. Registration is open at, under the 2013 page, and only 20 teams are invited.


(4) Teacher Education Course using Lego NXT at LTU

Lawrence Tech University in Southfield Michigan offers a 14 week (Jan 22 ~ Apr 26, 2013) 3 credit course entitled Autonomous Robotics for Education. (Course number: MET 5263). This is a course in the MET (Master of Educational Technology) program at LTU. The course will introduce concepts involved in robotics and robotics programming and how to use robotics education technologies to teach STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. It will provide hands-on experience in programming Lego robots with NXT-G language. Please contact Dr. Valentina Tobos ([email protected]), MET director, if you are interested in taking this class. It meets twice a week:� Tuesday 7pm ~ 8:15pm and online during the week.

(5) NDIA-MI Scholarship

The NDIA Michigan Chapter is offering scholastic scholarships of up to $1,500 per recipient to competitive high school and college students pursuing an education in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) for the 2013 - 2014 academic year. To be eligible, applicants must be a U.S. citizen; have Michigan residency or active military parent serving in Michigan; have current or planned enrollment in pursuit of a STEM-related BS or MS degree program; possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 (basis 4.0 scale); demonstrate a growing interest in college preparatory studies; and be active within the school or local community. Applications will be accepted on-line starting mid-December through February 28th, 2013.� Please visit:
