RoboFest 2002

Lego Zoo by Ida Bluestreaks Exhibition Team

Robot Exhibition Description

For the exhibition division of the Robofest 2002 competition, the Ida Bluestreaks have decided to build a Lego Zoo with numerous moving parts and working machines. One such feature is a large mountain. The mountain has a conveyor belt that moves a canoe up and down the slope. This tourist attraction is a wonderful picture taking opportunity. As the canoe goes down the mountain, the tourists can see an overview of the entire park. Another way visitors can get a good look at the exhibits is while having a meal. Our rotating caf provides great food at any time during the day. Although our visitors have to make reservations for this due to limited seating, most tourists find the experience of seeing the zoo from a “dizzying” perspective worth the wait. While waiting to eat at the rotating caf, a sightseer can ride on the park’s own swing extreme machine. Run by a motor and gears, this ride usually gets a “round” of applause from its passengers. Our special feature this year is the dinosaur exhibit. We have created lifelike dinosaurs and by using robotics, have made them appear to exist again. If you visit the aviary, we have made our birds “fly”. For you to experience this visual delight we used a rotating pole connected to a motor by a series of gears. We then attached the birds to the pole by using wire wrapped around the birds.

The Zoo is always expanding. Right now we are building a new South American exhibit, to aid us in this process we have a crane that is powered by a motor and gears. We have also used some wheels to allow the string attached to the hook to move over more smoothly.

Taking a walk towards the back of the zoo, a visitor can see the monkeys jump from tree to tree. The monkeys are attached to a wire and the wire is attached to an axle, which turns from side to side, swinging the monkey from one tree to the next.

Other features of our park include: Botanical gardens, complete with a pond; an open aquarium over which people can walk by means of a bridge; polar bears; the Cat Caf; a hat selling stand; two restrooms; an insect house; a reptile house and viewing area; a picnic area; a petting zoo; an African exhibit with a giraffe, an ostrich, and a wildebeest; and tigers

When planning a visit to our zoo be sure to allow plenty of time to view all of our amazing exhibits.
