(2)   Qualifying Competition Site Updates

 

Please note the following changes and additions to previously announced qualifying competitions:

 

·         Robofest has added a March 24th Robofest Livingston County RoboSumo Competition at Charyl Stockwell Academy in Howell, Michigan.  This RoboSumo competition is being organized by Kensington Woods High School, Howell, Michigan.  RoboSumo rules can be found at the following link and also on the Robofest web site:  http://techclubs.org/activities/robots/contests/sumo_rules_small_big.php

·         The Saturday, March 31 Competition at Macomb Intermediate School District (MISD), in Clinton Township, Michigan has been changed to Friday, March 30, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m.  The MISD site will host both Junior and Senior Game & Exhibition Teams

·         The Ann Arbor Trail Magnet School Competition on April 21 in Ann Arbor, Michigan will host both Junior Game and Junior Exhibition.  (RoboSumo has been dropped from this location.)

 

Registration for each qualifying competition site is on a first come first serve basis.  Please note that some competition locations are already at capacity.  If you have not yet registered your team for a competition location, you should do so as soon as possible.

 

(3)  Programming Workshop Schedule

 

Robofest continues to offer free Programming Workshops for teams in close proximity to LTU.  The workshop schedule can be found on the Robofest website at www.robofest.net   Click on the link entitled 2007 Schedule or directly at http://www.robofest.net/2007/sch07.htm . If your team is registered, then you do not need to register for these workshops.  Students, Parents, and Teachers of the registered teams are invited to attend.  Attendees should bring their robots, sensors, laptops, extra parts. 

 

LeJos Java workshop on Feb 3 uses RCX brick, not NXT. Participants expected to install necessary software on their laptops before attending the workshop. Please go to http://ltu164.ltu.edu/~chung/eclipse/index.htm for instructions.

 

All workshops, except the Feb. 10th NQC workshop, will be held at LTU in the Management Building.  (The Feb. 10th NQC workshop which will be held in the Science Building.)  Please view the posted schedule for exact room location.

(4)  Warm-up Competition at LTU

 

Please note that the Warm-Up Competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 10th from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the cafeteria at LTU.  The Warm-Up Competition is an excellent opportunity for new teams to see how a Qualifying competition runs. This is also an opportunity for new & returning site hosts, judges, etc.  New teams interested in participating in this warm-up/practice competition should contact Lori Birman at admin@robofest.org.   Additional information about the March Warm-Up will be available shortly.  Warm-up competition is only for Exhibitions and Games.

 


(5)  LEGO Engineering Conference February 10, Carlsbad, CA

 

The Tufts Engineering Center for Engineering Educational Outreach and LEGOLAND California cordially invite you to attend a LEGO Engineering Conference in Carlsbad, California.  The Conference will be a hands-on robotics workshop with the LEGO NXT on Sat., Feb. 10, 2007. Instructors are Robert Rasmussen of Tufts University and Dr. Ken Berry of California State University Northridge. The registration fee is $50. Participants will work with the NXT software and pre-built robot chassis, focusing on learning the programming.  Registration is on a first come first serve basis.  To Register, call 1-760-918-KIDS.  Questions:  e-mail lynn.crocket@legoland.com

 

 

(6) Robofest Seeks Your Help in Reaching More Students

 

Robofest is always looking for creative ways to promote participation in competition.  If you are a member of a Robotics on-line community, list serve, or other group who might be interested in being a part of Robofest, please forward them information about the Robofest 2007 Season, or forward them the Robofest web site address, www.robofest.net    Robofest is also willing to send out electronic and hard copies of promotional flyers if you would like to forward mail lists to admin@robofest.org  Thank you for your continued support!!
