SpongeBob SquarePants Food-A-Maker by Ida Middle School

Robot Exhibition Description

For our Exhibition Project we are making a Food-a-maker called the SpongeBob SquarePants Food-A -Maker. Legos were used to build a base for the conveyer belt, which assembles sandwiches. We used duct tape to make the conveyor belt. Our goal was to make an assembly line sandwich maker. The RCX is programmed to run below the conveyor, stop at the appropriate place to receive the sandwich then deliver it to the customer. Upon delivery of the sandwich, the RCX returns to its original place to collect yet another sandwich.

Two motors are used to run the conveyor belt. We tried to use only one, but there was not enough power to drive the duct tape belt. The programming was very simple for the conveyor. We turned on the motors for a certain amount of time, and then repeated that instruction. The RCX was to follow a black line made of electrical tape therefore enabling us to direct the RCX anywhere we wanted it to go. Due to an absence of light sensors, we were unable to do this. Our present program is timed. We have the RCX run for an exact time and then stop under the conveyor belt. This plan specifies that the RCX be placed in an exact spot every time, and this is difficult for us. We hope to modify this as well as use more of the RCX’s capabilities. At present, the RCX then reverses to return to its beginning base.
